Outdoor Classrooms: Rising throughout Brightmoor

Brightmoor Maker Space: Outdoor Classroom at St. Suzanne’s Cody Rouge Community Center in use by a summer youth group. This classroom opened May 16, 2021 and has been in continual use since by over 30 groups in Detroit.

Process:

Patrick Schrock and Quentin Bray prepare the framing on a brisk day in March 2021
Pictured here are U of M students Dakota Lewis and Juan Marco who worked with us at vital times throughout the construction.
We began our process with a full scale but reduced footprint prototype on Blackstone Street–right across from the Maker Space to refine the design process and fine tune essential construction details with our youth builders. This is February 2021.

The smallest Outdoor Classroom was built to be a community stage. It is right across the street from the Brightmoor Maker Space on Blackstone Street and sits at he base of a beautiful oak tree.
